Rabbit Ears Ranger Station 1944 16 July 1944 "SE 1/4, Section 20: T5N, R83W.
Rabbit Ears Ranger Station (5 Spruce R.S.)
Built in 1915 and destroyed in 1935. [These dates are actually for the Bears Ears Ranger Station. The Rabbit Ears Ranger Station, according to "History of Routt National Forest 1905-1972" was built 1913 and destroyed 1940. However, there is still mention of people visiting the ranger station in the Steamboat Pilot until 1951. 11/7/25, ABC].
Photo taken by E.R. Lepley on July 16, 1944.
Vigor of the ground vegetation is much better in bottom photo [9359]. Guard Station road has been reclaimed by ground cover to the point it's hard to notice. Only one of the five spruce trees is still standing and it is dead. The two most noted changes are:
1. Willows have increased - in fact, photographer was standing in the middle of willows on the old road taking bottom photo.
2. Conifers have increased within the aspen stands in the background." Compare with photo 9359.
Description of image: log cabin on right side of photo with four pine trees in middle. Wooden fence surrounds cabin and runs along dirt road from middle of photo to left side. Number 431149 in bottom right corner.
